1000 x 1 mile ++ swims - gps confirmed distances only

#6 Breederivier 1 mile  23 March 2019

Kayaking weekend - took a swim in the Breederiver whilst others were kayaking - it did help that it was downriver!

#5 17 Feb 2019 Sanlam 1 mile Grabouw

Swimming 1 mile seems to be easy, and if you do your training, it is actually the easiest discipline within triathlon.  Family swim, with Werner, Ruanda, Elize.  Some benchmark times for the future.

#4 Half ironman Gdynia - Swimming in the Baltic sea during 2017 was special as the sea was literally full of jellyfish, thousands of them.  The water was 20 degrees and we swam a one lap route in a flattish sea.  Participants were seeded according to age, I dont like that much, as times are normally a lot quicker when you self seed.  Even so, worth remembering.

#3 Half ironman Budapest - this picture was taken about 30 mins before race start when people can warm up.  The water was warm and most people swam without wet suits.  Fast swim in the Danube river.  Did get a stomach bug though that hindered me during the cycle leg.

£3 Ironman Vichy - The 3.8km swim was in the Allier river in Vichy France.   The water was extremely warm, and swimming without wet suits would have been the better option. The start was once again in age group format.  I remember the South African flag on the bridge before the swim started.

#2 Ironman PE - Sometimes PE looks like a dam, and in 2008 it was exactly how it was.  The helicopters were hovering in the sky with the self-seeding start.

#1 WP champs swem - Swam my first swimming race during WP champs, and Jaco Brand joined me.
