Sentosa is an island resort off Singapore’s southern coast, connected to the city by road, cable car, pedestrian boardwalk and monorail. By Sentosa Station, Tiger Sky Tower has panoramic views that can stretch as far as Indonesia. On the south coast, Palawan Beach is lined with food stalls and bars, and has a suspension bridge to a small offshore island. Palm-lined, crescent-shaped Tanjong Beach is more tranquil.
We spent one day at Sentosa after our trip to Indonesia. We had some budget to spend, and the barman said we should relax and pay the bill afterwards. Six Carlsberg lagers later, and R1500 later!
The island is very popular, and ships can be seen very close to shore. In the middle bottom photo these big container carrying ships can be seen. We swam to the sharkline about 400 meters from shore, but the sea is more like a dam, no waves.

Universal Studios Singapore is a theme park located within Resorts World Sentosa on Sentosa Island, Singapore. It features 28 rides, shows, and attractions in seven themed zones. It was a key component of Genting's bid for the right to build Singapore's second integrated resort.
Ons het die trips baie geniet. Een van die trips het Indiana Jones se flieks nagemaak, en dit was skrikwekkend. Op een stadium gaan die voertuig op soos met n huisbak, en die volgende oomblik voeter jy aan die anderkant af.

The Marina Bay Sands hotel - bottom middle has a swimmingpool on the top floor, and is a world renowned building. The first time we saw the building was when we visited Clarke Quay. It looked like an aeroplane landed on the rooftop. marinabaysands.

The business district boasts more that 100 banks from all over the world, and we visited the area on the recommendation of a Spaniard that attended the IIA conference. It is an amazing place, with ample small restaurants around.

Upon independence from Malaysia in 1965, Singapore faced a small domestic market, and high levels of unemployment and poverty. 70 percent of Singapore's households lived in badly overcrowded conditions, and a third of its people squatted in slums on the city fringes. Unemployment averaged 14 percent, GDP per capita was US$516, and half of the population was illiterate.
The current economy of Singapore is a highly developed free-market economy. Singapore's economy has been ranked as the most open in the world, 7th least corrupt, most pro-business, with low tax rates (14.2% of Gross Domestic Product, GDP) and has the third highest per-capita GDP in the world in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). APEC is headquartered in Singapore.
